Hristifor Gopčević or Cristoforo Gopcevich (Serbian Cyrillic: Христифор Гопчевић; Herceg Novi, Montenegro, Austrian Empire, 1765 - Trieste, Austrian Empire, 1850) was a renowned Serbian shipping magnate and trader from Trieste.[1][2]

Hristifor Gopčević was a famous shipowner from Trieste, originally from Herceg Novi in Montenegro[3]. He was married to Sofia Kvekić also from Herceg Novi (1792 - Trieste, 1854) with whom he had two sons, George (1814) and Spiridione Gopcevich (1815). He came to Trieste for the first time in 1805 and soon moved from his native Herceg Novi, then under the Austrian Empire, with his three Brigantine, attracted by the explosive growth of the merchant sea trade taking place there. In a short period of time, he achieved and surpassed his earning potential. He was the initiator of the family of shipowners who laid the foundations of their business success in Trieste, and helped the development of the city economically. Thanks to his successful business and trade, he was one of the founders of Novog ilirskog osigruavajeće.g. društva (La nuova Compagnia illirica d'Assicurazioni), together with his partners Jacob Curiel and Alessandro Galatti.[4]
