Other Activity

Basava Awards

Every year, in the native village Nyalkal of Dr. Hothi Basavaraj Sculptor, the Peer Saheb Dargah Fair is celebrated.

This festival stands as a symbol of communal harmony, bringing together people from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana who actively take part in it.

During this large community gathering, there is a special day called the Bull Fair. On this day, farmers from all four states bring their bulls to buy and sell them at the fair.

In this event, Dr. Hothi Basavaraj Sculptor, in memory of his parents Girijamma(mother) and Hothi Adivappa(father), presents the "Basava Awards" every year to ten outstanding cattle-rearing farmers who have shown excellence in raising and maintaining bulls and calves.[16]

The awards are distributed in the presence of the village elders.

These Basava Awards have been presented to farmers for the past 18 years.

The main objective of this awards is to save and protect cows and bulls and to promote livestock development and encourage natural farming by using bulls in agriculture.[17][18]

He emphasizes that farming with bulls is more natural and sustainable, and urges farmers to reduce harmful chemicals and grow organic, natural crops. To make the Basava Awards program successful, his Family, brothers, friends, and villagers actively participate every year.[19][20]
