HoppyGo is a Czech Republic peer-to-peer carsharing platform that offers private car owners to rent out their vehicles whenever not used. And for those that do not own a car (or simply need to rent one), the platform offers a way to rent a vehicle.
History
HoppyGo was founded in 2017[1]. In 2018 the mobility start-up incubator ŠKODA AUTO Digilab acquired the firm. The following years of 2019 and 2020 were marked by a significant expansion in its user base. By the end of 2020, over 100 000 users have registered with the platform and offered 2300 vehicles around the entire Czech Republic[2].
The service expanded into Poland and Slovakia at the beginning of 2021[3].
Description of the service
The HoppyGo platform is based on the peer-to-peer principles of Peer-to-peer carsharing|car sharing. Individual and private car owners have the option of adding their vehicles to the platform and set a price for which the car can be rented. Those that wish to these cars can then pick from the offerings[4].
Both drivers and owners must register at the platform and pass its internal scoring system. The rental process is done through the HoppyGo app, everything from the booking process to the handover of the vehicle. All rentals are covered by the UNIQA insurance, covering the common risks[5].
Goal of the service
HoppyGo's goal is to “facilitate convenient, comfortable, affordable and sustainable individual mobility for the masses“. The platform also enables car owners to monetize their unused vehicles.
