HongYaDong is located in Chongqing city state. It is a traditional Chinese Stilt house from the Ba-yu culture of the Ba (state) established during predynastic ancient China. It is historically important as one of China's earliest piers and one of the 17 old town gates of ancient Chongqing during the 14th century Ming Dynasty. The complex is built around a natural mountainside cave. The site served as a military fortress throughout many dynasties.[1] It is now a popular site for Asian tourists due to its scenic views, restaurants, street foods, and characteristic architecture.[2] In 2018, during the Chinese Labor Day weekend over 142,000 people visited this tourist location. While much of the old complex was remodeled in the late 90's and the current Hongya Dong enjoys a history over 600 years long and represents the city spirit of Chongqing.[3]
