Hisham El-Khazindar (Arabic: هشام الخازندار) is an Egyptian businessman and investor. He is the co-founder and managing director of Qalaa Holdings, a leading investment company in Africa and the Middle East.[1] Prior to founding Qalaa Holdings, he worked in investment banking at EFG Hermes and was seconded to Goldman Sachs in London.[2]
Early Life and Education
El-Khazindar was born on November 20, 1974, in Cairo, Egypt. He spent his early years in Thailand, Madagascar, France, and Egypt, following his father's diplomatic career.[3] His father, Hussein El-Khazindar, was a diplomat and served as an ambassador for Egypt. [4]
He attended Lycée Français du Caire for his early education before enrolling at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1996.[5] He later pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Harvard Business School, graduating in 2003.[6]
Career
El-Khazindar began his career in 1996 at EFG Hermes, a leading investment bank in the Middle East, where he worked in investment banking and advisory.[7] In 1999, he was seconded to Goldman Sachs in London, gaining experience in global investment banking.[8]
In April 2004, he co-founded Qalaa Holdings with Ahmed Heikal.[9] The firm has since grown into a major investment company, focusing on sectors such as energy, transportation, logistics, cement, and agribusiness. Under his leadership, Qalaa Holdings has been involved in major projects, including the Egyptian Refining Company and Taqa Arabia.[10]
Personal Life
El-Khazindar has been married to Ola Dajani since 2000. The couple has two children: Layla (born 2008) and Hussein (born 2011). He is an avid photographer and enjoys traveling and running. He often shares moments from his travels and family life on social media.
