Herbert V. Johnson is a businessman and founder of HVJ Associates Inc., a civil engineering company based in Texas.[1] He is also an author of the book published Engineering Business Success: Essential Lessons in Building a Thriving Company – 2014.

He worked in Atlanta for the Environmental Protection Agency’s hazard waste management department for many years , and for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he conducted geotechnical research. [2] He created an endowment scholarship program in the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State. The scholarship was dedicated to his parents and was named after them, as The Jessie and Sarah L. Johnson Endowed Scholarship.[3] He started the first and only engineering franchise system in the country by franchising the Dallas and Austin HVJ Associates Inc. branches.

Personal Life

Herbert V. Johnson grew up in Mississippi. His dad was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker in Panola County. Having an agricultural background, he took part in events held by The Future Farmers of America. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1978 in Civil Engineering and holds a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from 1981.[4][5]

After completing his Bachelors, Johnson while doing Master’s, was hired by the Federal Government, where he worked full-time as a research civil engineer and design engineer in the U.S. Corps of Engineers & Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, both supported by the Mississippi State University.[6]

He was a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board for the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering. He was also a member of board of directors for the MSU Foundation.[7]
