Henry Ernest Roberts was an English businessman from West Kirby, Wirral, best nown as an expert on medieval monasteries. He was also the founding Secretary of the Rodewald Concert Society of Liverpool. He was born in Kent on 24 Jul 1882 and died in West Kirby on 10 Aug 1959.

Professional life

H Ernest Roberts, as he was usually known, started his career as a salesman and eventually became a business manager.

Private life

H Ernest Roberts was the founding Secretary of the Rodewald Concert Society, Liverpool and remained in post until his death after 48 years service to the Society.[1] Although he was the backbone of the Society for nearly half a century, sadly, little seems to have been recorded about his background. He was also Chairman of the Hoylake Chamber Concert Society and sang in the Liverpool Philharmonic Choir.[1] He had some success as a composer; his Mass was broadcast about 07 Apr 1938, but a later Mass in B flat was rejected by the BBC. None of his compositions appear to have been published. As well as being an expert on chamber music, he was an authority on medieval monasteries.[2]
