Public health administration, health care systems, hospitals, and hospital networks in the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors are the primary, secondary, and tertiary settings, respectively, for the study of health administration. Similar concepts include hospital management, healthcare management, healthcare administration, and health administration.

Health systems management, also known as health care systems management, is the management of healthcare organisations such as hospitals, hospital networks, and health care systems. In an international setting, the term "management" may refer to any kind of administration. The United States uses the terms "medical and health services management," "healthcare management," and "health administration" interchangeably to refer to the administration of a single healthcare facility. All of these names refer to the same object.

By coordinating the various parts of a healthcare organisation, health systems management makes sure that the desired results are achieved, problems are avoided, employees are doing what they're supposed to be doing, resources are used effectively, and everyone in the facility is helping each other learn and grow.
