Haykaz Zaveni Mkrtchyan (October 31, 2000, Yerevan - November 9, 2020, Yerevan, Armenia), serviceman of Armenian Armed Forces, participant in the Armenian-Azerbaijani military conflict of July 2020 and the 44 days duration 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war started on 27th of September, 2020. He died during the Armenian-Azerbaijani war in 2020.[1] He was posthumously awarded with the Combat Service Medal by the decree of the President of Armenia.[2]
Biography
Haykaz Mkrtchyan was born on October 31, 2000 in Yerevan. He has two sisters. His father Zaven Mkrtchyan and mother Anna Mkrtchyan both are Economist. In 2006 he started chess studies at Avan Chess Sports School for Children and Youth and played chess until 2018. He successfully participated in Armenian championships, Stepan Avagyan Memorial Chess Tournament, and Andranik Margaryan Tournament. From 2006 to 2014 he studied at School N177 after Galina Starovoitova in Avan, Yerevan. From 2014 to 2018 he studied at the High School N182 after Gevorg Emin in Yerevan. In parallel with the High School, he also studied in the preparatory course of the Armenian-Russian University. In 2018 he entered the Faculty of Informatics and Applied Mathematics of Yerevan State University. The same year, he joined the First Armenian Front. On January 23, 2019, he was called-up into the Armenian Army. He was a Sergeant, in the position of a Crew Commander. During the Armenian-Azerbaijani military conflict in July, he took part in battles and outbraved in Chinar (Armenia). Starting from October 14, 2020 he heroically combated in the battles of Jabrayil, Taghavart, Drakhtik and Azykh (Artsakh). He was injured on October 29, 2020 in Karmir Bazar (Artsakh)and died on November 9 in the hospital.[3]
He was buried in Yerablur Pantheon in Yerevan, Armenia.
