Hatem Jacob Alawad (born October 31, 2001) is an American professional Basketball player for Sal Turtles of the Cabo Verde Basketball League.

Before beginning his FIBA career in West Africa during 2022, he played College basketball for California Miramar University in San Diego. As a high school senior in 2020, he was offered to play Division II Basketball at California Miramar University where he was later selected in 2021 to play professionally overseas at the Cabo Verde Basketball League. Hatem Alawad was ranked 25th in scoring at the Cabo Verde Basketball League where he averaged 9.4 ppg within 12 games and lead the Sal Turtles to a 2nd seed ranking in the 2022 CVBL season. He was named the youngest American Basketball player to play at the Cabo Verde Basketball League and in the FIBA AfroBasket conference at 20 years of age.

Professional career

Alawad was acquired by the Sal, Cape Verde Turtles on October 5, 2021 for the 2022 Cabo Verde Basketball League season. In his rookie year, Alawad held a starting role on the Sal Turtles leading his team to an overall 2nd seed in the 2022 Cabo Verde Basketball League regular season. On July 24, 2022, The Sal Turtles fell short against Txada Pantera to play in the Cabo Verde Basketball League national championship game versus the Palmarejo, Cape Verde Sharks, the Sal, Cape Verde Turtles placed 3rd overall in the CVBL Playoffs bracket poll.

On July 10, 2022, Alawad scored 31 points against Txada Pantera in a regular season match up. After 2 quarters of play, Alawad only had a total of 3 points at the half. When the 2nd half came to play, he scored 28 points and 17 of his points came in the 3rd quarter alone. Despite his 31 points, Sal Turtles came away with their first season loss against Txada Pantera.
