Alhaji Haruna Uji (born in 1946) in Hadejia, Nigeria, was a Nigerian popular Hausa Musician. He is known for his traditional and cultural songs that reflect the history and values of the Hausa people. He received education at Allo school and later continued his studies in different towns, gaining good reading skills.[1] He adopted the name "Uji" from his father's name, Haruna, and his wife's association with "Iya Kura."[2] Uji had a cheerful character, average build, and was known for his sense of humor. He was a skilled hunter and farmer before becoming a car driver, which eventually led him to Gurmi music. Uji was influenced by the music of Gurmi while watching a street worker named Dan-mato. He started imitating the music and eventually began performing Gurmi music himself, gaining popularity in different towns in Northern Nigeria.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
