Harper Murray (born February 24, 2005) is an American volleyball player. She currently plays as an Outside Hitter for the University of Nebraska..[1]
Career
High School
Murray played for Skyline High School in Ann Arbour, Michigan. She was the Gatorade National Player of the Year in her senior year[2] and also received the Miss Michigan Volleyball Honour in 2022[1]. Murray was ranked the No. 1 overall recruit in the country by PrepVolleyball.com[1]
College
Murray enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in January 2023, one semester early, along with four other freshmen on the team[3]. She was a regular starter, playing all six rotations and finishing the regular season with a total of 336 kills.[4] Alongside her team, Murray won the 2023 Big Ten Championship[5] and was a runner-up in the NCAA national championship in Tampa. Harper also played at Memorial Stadium for "Volleyball Day in Nebraska" which set the global attendance record for a women's sporting event[6].
In her freshman season, she was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team, as well as being a unanimous selection to the All-Conference Freshman Team[4]. Murray was named to the goAVCA North all-region team alongside five of her teammates[7], and also earned Third-Team All-American honours[8]
International
Murray has played for the USA Volleyball Under-19 and Under-18 Girls Teams. In 2022, she won the Best Spiker Award at the Pan-American Cup, where the team won Gold. She was also a part of the 2021 Girls Team which won Bronze at the FIVB U19 World Championship that year.[9]
Personal Life
Murray wears the number 27 after her late father[3] Vada Murray, who played football for the University of Michigan[10]. Her sister Kendall plays volleyball at Michigan, also wearing the number 27.[11]
