Harold Finley is a British / American writer, director, producer and the former Executive Director / CEO of the Stage Directors UK Union.[1]

Harold began working in the theatre as an actor, appearing in several West End productions, in regional theatre, in North America and at the National Theatre.[2] In 2001, he began writing and performing critically acclaimed solo shows, including True Stories and Rhymes Reasons and Bomb Ass Beatz, which toured the UK, America and played sold-out seasons in London.[3]

In 2013, he directed his play A Thousand Miles of History at the Bussey Building, London,[4] which was nominated for three Broadway World Awards, including Best Production of a New Play Fringe or Regions,[5] the 2014 WhatsOnStage Awards in the category of Best Off-West End Production, and was named Best New Play by Broadway World in their 2013 listing of the Best and Worst Of Theatre in the United Kingdom.[6]

Harold co-founded and produced the Black, Queer & Fierce! arts festival, which is recognised as the first arts festival from a black, queer perspective.[7] Harold is a member of SOLT/UK Theatre's anti-racism and inclusion committee and was a member of Ambassador Theatre Group's Diversity Forum (2020–2021), and is a Trustee Board Member of Theatr Clwyd.[8]
