Harald Heimtun Soleng (born 24 December 1962) is a Norwegian physicist. He has been a senior project engineer at Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace since 2010.

Hraald Soleng studied science at the University of Oslo, and obtained a Cand. Scient. degree in 1987. A key result of his master thesis was published in Nature.[1]The following year, together with Øyvind Grøn, he received the H.M. The King's Gold Medal at the University of Oslo for the award thesis "Universe's first second".[2]

He defended his Dr. Philos. degree in physics at the University of Oslo in 1991 on a thesis on gravitation theories with curvature and torsion. He later worked at the University of Pennsylvania where he worked on domain walls with Mirjam Cvetič.[3] At the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (NORDITA) he worked with Igor Dmitriyevich Novikov on self-consistency of space-time solutions allowing time-travel.[4] During his time at CERN he continued research into space-time distortions.[5] From 1997 he switched to programming and algorithm development for the oil industry at the Norwegian Computing Center. From 2010, he worked for Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace.

In 2021, he received the Universitetsforlaget's textbook prize together with Eva Hadler Vihovde for the textbook idea "Practical software testing for developers", which resulted in the book "Plettfri kode: Hvordan forhindre feil I programvare" (Spotless Code: How to prevent errors in software).[6]
