Hans Oudenaarden (Rotterdam, June 23, 1948) is a Dutch classical pianist and notary. He had his first piano lessons when he was 8 years old, and at 10 he was accepted as a student by Marinus Flipse, a well-known pianist and piano teacher in the Netherlands and France, who turned out to be of great influence on Oudenaarden’s piano playing. Hans Oudenaarden is married and has two children.
Musical Career
At the age of 11, Hans Oudenaarden performed for the first time in public. During his student days, at Utrecht University and Leiden University, he was regularly asked to perform as a soloist with student orchestras. During a 14-day international tour of the Dutch Student Chamber Orchestra (NESKO), he was the soloist in Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto. Oudenaarden’s first recordings were made in the 1970’s, and his first CD came out in 1982, Pianissimo, with music of Chopin, Mozart, and Debussy. In the following years he made recordings as a soloist, and with pianists like Daniel Wayenberg, Louis van Dijk, Marinus Flipse and Wibi Soerjadi. Special mention deserves his live recording of Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra led by Choo Hoey. On this CD (1993) one can also find a composition by Dutch composer Thijs Dercksen, dedicated to Hans Oudenaarden: Reminiscenses of Amsterdam, a paraphrase of two popular Dutch songs. Six of Oudenaarden’s CD’s attained gold status.
Nowadays his recitals are rare, but his love for piano music is unwavering, and talented young pianists know how to find him for musical and professional advice
