Hafid Abdelmoula (born June 12, 1975) is a Moroccan-American[1][2] writer, screenwriter, performer, director, actor, singer, producer,[3] and filmmaker.[4][5][6][7][8][9] He is best known for his work in Broken Gaiete, Captain Fantastic, and The Wall in the Garden.[10][11]

Personal Life

Abdelmoula was born to M'barek Abdelmoula and Fatima Ouchad in Morocco.[1][12] He completed his master's in Film from Vermont College of Fine Arts.[12][13][7]

Abdelmoula is married to Trudel S Abdelmoula. He speaks Arabic, Berber, French, English, Spanish, and German.[4][12] He currently resides in Las Cruces, New Mexico.[14]

Career

Starting his career at age 20,[12] Abdelmoula was a singer at the Moroccan Regional Orchestra Conservatory.[8] Abdelmoula won a 1996 television competition on the Moroccan 2M TV channel as a singer.[4][13][15][7]

He wrote and directed several short films, including the award-winning The Wall in the Garden, Human, a Depressed Machine,[10][11] Baby, Religified and Restricted.[15] In 2016, he appeared as a funeral driver in his first feature film Captain Fantastic.[16][3][8]

Abdelmoula hosts a podcast, HumaniTEA, with Mark Vasconcellos.[17]

In January 2023, he was awarded a Rising Star in Film and Television of New Mexico by the New Mexico Film + TV Hall of Fame.[18]
