The public research institution that is Griffith University may be found in South East Queensland, on the east coast of Australia. Although Griffith University was formally established in 1971, it did not begin offering degrees in environmental science or Asian studies until 1975. This was the first time such programmes were offered in Australia.

Sir Samuel Walker Griffith, who served as both a Premier of Queensland and the first Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, is honoured with the naming of this educational institution. Sir Samuel Griffith was a pivotal figure in the establishment of the Commonwealth of Australia and was the primary author of the country's founding document, the Australian Constitution.

The university first opened its doors with a single campus located in Nathan and enrolled 451 students. Today, it has five physical campuses spread across three cities; the Gold Coast campus located in Southport and the Nathan campus in Brisbane are the two biggest of these locations. The Mount Gravatt and South Bank campuses may also be found in Brisbane, while the Meadowbrook location serves as the host for the Logan school. In 2018, the University opened its Digital campus, which is currently its sixth location and provides students with the opportunity to earn a variety of degrees online.

There are approximately 50,000 students enrolled at Griffith, and the university provides a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research degrees in the fields of business and government, criminology and law. Griffith is located in Queensland, Australia. It is a lush university that also belongs to the International Rugby Union.

With an overall satisfaction rating of 82.1, Griffith University was ranked seventh best among all Australian institutions in the 2019 Student Experience Survey. Additionally, it had the highest student satisfaction rating among all public universities in Queensland. Since 2012, Griffith Institution has been honoured with a greater number of Australian Awards for University Teaching than any other university in Australia. Emeritus Professor Alan Mackay-Sim, who was named Australian of the Year in 2017, is one of the many illustrious graduates and faculty members that Griffith has produced.
