Gretchen 'Gertie' Hirsch New York City, April 11, 1979) is an American retro Blogger (person), author and fashion designer.
Hirsch is most known for her blog Gertie's New Blog For Better Sewing, where she shares vintage sewing techniques and general fashion-related content. Hirsch launched her independent pattern company Charm Patterns and abandoned the Blog For Better Sewing in October 2017. [1] Hirsch takes inspiration from mid-20th century women's fashions to create her designs, especially the 1950s. [2] She published her first book New Book for Better Sewing in September 2012 [3] and her second book, Gertie Sews Vintage Casual, in September 2014 [4]. Hirsch has her own line of fabric with Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores [5] and has partnered with major pattern company Simplicity to create her pattern line "Patterns by Gertie". [6] She resides in Beacon, New York.
