Gregory M. Flato has been the Director of the Climate Research Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada since 2021. Prior to that he was a Senior Research Scientist and Manager of the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis, located in Victoria, BC, Canada. From 2015 to 2023 he was a Vice Chair of the IPCC's Working Group I, as well as a Review Editor and Drafting Author [1], and prior to that served as a Coordinating Lead author of Chapter 9 "Evaluation of Climate Models". He has served on numerous national and international climate science committees and advisory bodies, and currently serves as co-Chair of the World Climate Research Programme's Working Group on Coupled Modelling [2]. Dr Flato has a BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta (1984 and 1988 respectively), and a PhD in Engineering Science from Dartmouth College (1991). In 2016 Dr Flato received the Environment and Climate Change Canada Deputy Minister's Commendation, and in 2022, the Jim Bruce Citation of Excellence.
