Greg Chako (born June 12, 1958) is an American jazz guitarist, composer,& educator.He has released thirteen albums and has been the subject of a documentary called An American Cat in the Lion City.He played with artists like Junior Cook, Bill Hardman, and Bobby Watson.[1]

Early life

He was born on June 12, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and began his musical education at 9, learning to play the accordion.[2]

He soon switched to the guitar and quickly developed a talent for the instrument. After just one year of guitar lessons, he won second place in the American Guild of Music competition.[3]

Chako later attended Berklee College of Music, earning an associate's degree in Music Performance and making the Dean's list.[4]

Career

He moved back to the United States in 2009 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and business, followed by a Master's in music.[5]

Chako then earned admission to a Doctor of Musical Arts program at The Eastman School of Music. He released his first solo guitar album, My World on Six Strings in 2013.[6]

He has recently signed with New Jersey-based label Raining Music, a jazz subsidiary of Mint 400 Records.[7]

On April 8, 2022, Raining Music began re-releasing Chako's entire catalog, along with new albums currently in production.[8] The first album scheduled for re-release is Integration, originally released as two volumes, which have now been combined into one.[6]

He also spearheaded his new recordings. Friends, Old & New, is the first of three albums that released in summer 2023.[5]
