Greensboro is a city located in and the county seat of Guilford County in the state of North Carolina, United States of America. Located in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad metropolitan area, it is the third-most populated city in North Carolina and the 68th-most populous city in the United States. It had a population of 299,035, according to the 2020 United States Census. It is at this city that three main interstate routes (Interstate 40, Interstate 85, and Interstate 73) in the Piedmont area of central North Carolina come together. The city is well known as the Crossroads of the Piedmont.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget redefined the former Greensboro–Winston–Salem–High Point metropolitan statistical region in 2003, replacing it with the Greensboro–Winston–Salem–High Point metropolitan statistical area. The Greensboro–High Point metropolitan area and the Winston–Salem metropolitan area were established as divisions of the larger region. The Greensboro–High Point metropolitan area had a population of 723,801 people in 2010. It was estimated that 1,599,477 people lived in the combined statistical area (CSA) of Greensboro—Winston-Salem—High Point—commonly known as the Piedmont Triad—in 2010.
