Greenlaunch is a company attempting to use a type of space gun to launch payloads into low Earth orbit. It is a private company spinoff of QuickLaunch, itself a successor to SHARP.[1]
GreenLaunch System
GreenLaunch proposes building an impulse launch system powered by a pressurized Hydrogen and Helium mix. Unlike previously tested space gun concepts, a mixture of pressurized Hydrogen and Helium could provide advantages in firing where more traditional propellants have failed.[2] Using a solid rocket booster second stage contained within the projectile, GreenLaunch aims to achieve orbit. GreenLaunch intends to eventually fire a projectile at Mach 20.[3] Unlike many traditional rocket propellants, the only byproduct of burnign hydrogen is water, potentially allowing the GreenLaunch system to be carbon neutral.[4]
Successful Firings
On December 21, 2021, GreenLaunch Successfully fired their first 54 foot prototype hydrogen impulse launcher at Yuma Proving Grounds. The projectile reached an altitude above 30,000 meters and experienced for 80,000 G's at launch.[5][6] h
