Grace Ahlbom (born September 10, 1993) is an American photographer living in New York City.

Early life and education

Ahlbom grew up in Corte Madera, California. Starting in elementary school, she photographed her friends skateboarding on disposable cameras and created zines from repurposed photo albums.[1][2] Ahlbom attended Redwood High School in Larkspur, California.[3]

Ahlbom went on to attend Pratt Institute, where she studied photography and graduated in 2016.[4] That same year she put on her thesis exhibition and released a self- published book Dig in Your Heels, Stick to Your Guns.[5] While at Pratt, Ahlbom assisted Ryan McGinley, who she cites as a pivotal mentor and influence.[6]

Work

In 2017, Grace was cited as, “photographer of the skateboarding set” and listed amongst 9 New Yorkers poised for creative greatness.[7] She has photographed for Supreme worldwide.[8]

Mainly shooting on 35mm[9], Ahlbom combines a point and shoot style with experimental darkroom processes.[10] She has exhibited at Soft Opening in London[11] and has released four zines with Dashwood Books.[12][13]

Ahlbom is known for her photographs of friends, skaters, and figures including Iggy Pop[14] and Damien Echols[15][16]. In 2018, she worked with and shot Frank Ocean over the course of a month for his brand Homer.[17]
