Gonzalo Varela (born November 26, 1990, in Montevideo, Uruguay)[1] is a Uruguayan composer, sound designer, and university instructor. Varela is mainly known as a composer for media,[2] and for composing the original soundtrack for Fight'N Rage.[3] [4]

Biography

Varela graduated from the Bachelor of Music, Profile: Composition, and the Bachelor of Musical Performance, Profile: Guitar, at the University School of Music (currently Faculty of Arts) of the University of the Republic.[5] He also holds a Master of Fine Arts in Music Composition for the Screen from Columbia College Chicago,[6] after receiving a Fulbright-ANII Graduate Program scholarship to study in the United States.[7]

He has been awarded several national and international prizes, including three National Music Awards from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Uruguay) in 2015,[8] 2020,[9] and 2022.[10] In 2023, he won the Best Score award at the Kino London Short Film Festival for his work on the British film The Forfeit.[11]

One of his most renowned works is the original soundtrack for Fight'N Rage. The soundtrack has been released on CD by Limited Run Games[12] and Selecta Play (video game publishing arm of Selecta Visión),[13] and on vinyl and cassette by Enjoy the Ride Records.[14][15] He was also announced as the composer and sound designer for the video game Neon Inferno, developed by Zenovia Interactive.[16]

Varela is an instructor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of the Republic[17] and at the Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz and Creative Music program at the Technological University of Uruguay
