Gaia GodTellers is a Christian music festival which ocorres in the Summer, in Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal). The next edition of the festival will happen on the 3rd and 4th of July, in Jardim do Morro.

This is a free event, organized by the youth group of Canelas (Grupo de Jovens de Canelas), which «gathers artists from multiple Christian churches and seeks to praise this one, same God»[1]. It's first edition happened in 2015, in the town of Canelas, and in 2019 it celebrated it's 5th edition, in Jardim do Morro, with a total of 16 bands and artists, distributed through 2 days of live performances.[2]

Since 2018, the event has been supported by the City Hall. The last two editions were headlined by the Portuguese pop groups HMB (2018) and D’Alva (2019).[3][4][5][6]

History

GodTellers is an initiative created by the youth group of Canelas (Grupo de Jovens de Canelas), from Vila Nova de Gaia, which originated from «the dream of creating opportunities to take Christian music and Christian musicians to the global cultural space»[2]

The first 3 editions were held in Canelas, Vila Nova de Gaia, «with the presence of bands such as «Missio» (Roman Catholic Chruch), «Claves de Fé» (Methodist), «Brasa Church Espinho» (Evangelic) and Claudine Pinheiro and the priest Marcos Alvim»[7], among others, in a continous bet to join a diversity of churches and religious confessions.

The project, unique in Portugal, seeks to break religious barriers and offer «an experience of faith and its expression in youth culture, free from prejudice, focused only in Jesus Christ»[7][8] similar to what this youth group experienced by participating in the various editions of World Youth Day.[9]

In the 4th edition of the festival, the organization obtained the support of the City Hall, who embraiced the project and took it to an emblematic area of the city: Jardim do Morro.[5] That same year, the festival had a duration of two days and was headlined by HMB, a Portuguese pop band. The event was hosted by TV presenter Jorge Gabriel. The 4th edition was labeled a success[6] and, in 2019, the event returned to Jardim do Morro, with a line-up of 16 bands and artists from across the country and from different chuches in the Christian spectrum, among which the headline D’Alva.
