C. Giovanni Galizia (*10.04.1963 in Rome) is Director of the Zukunftskolleg - an interdisciplinary institution at the University of Konstanz, Germany, that aims for the promotion of young postdoctoral researchers from the humanities, natural and social sciences – as well as Professor for Neuroscience and Zoology at the Department of Biology at the University of Konstanz. Since 2022, he is a Permanent Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.

Life and career

Giovanni Galizia was Associate Professor for Entomology and Entomologist at the University of California, Riverside, USA, and independent research group leader at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, funded by the Volkswagenstiftung. From 2000 to 2005 he was a (founding) member of Die Junge Akademie, initiated by the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Berlin, Germany, and the academy Leopoldina in Halle, Germany. He has published several books including the textbook Neurosciences, organized international symposia, and is editor of different journals, including the European Journal of Neuroscience, and the Journal of Comparative Physiology A.

Research

Giovanni Galizia’s research is about how odors are coded in the insect brain, using several species (mostly honeybees and fruit flies), and different techniques (mostly optical imaging and behaviour). [1] [2]
