Giorgio Jerzy Rayzacher (born 26 September 1947) is an Italian–French–Polish film director, actor and novelist. He works in Italian, Polish, French and English and is known for his films, his acting roles in international projects, and his literary works published in Europe.

Early life and education

Rayzacher was born in Warsaw to a Polish father and an Italian mother.[1] He spent his childhood between Poland and Italy. He later studied film directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and worked alongside several Italian filmmakers during the 1970s and 1980s.[2]

Career

Film directing

Rayzacher made his directorial debut with the documentary Metilicon, produced with the support of Italian director Giorgio Patara.[3] He later directed the RAI production La Vendetta (1972) and, decades later, the French–Italian thriller Raptus (1998). His career includes documentary work and over 200 commercial films.[4]

Acting

Rayzacher has appeared in numerous Polish television series and international productions.[5] He had a cameo role in Paweł Pawlikowski’s Academy Award–nominated film Cold War (2018).[6] In 2025, he played an Italian journalist in Pawlikowski’s film 1949 / Vaterland.[7]

Literary work

Rayzacher is the author of several novels published in France, Italy and Poland. His works include:

  • La Princesse de Lyon (1997)
  • Dreszcze (2004), published in France as Frissons
  • La leggenda dell’uomo nervoso (2007)
