Georgia Latu (Kāi Tahu, Ngāpuhi) is a New Zealand entrepreneur, author, māori activist and artist. She is the founder, and current Chief Executive at Potiki Poi.

Biography

Latu lives in Dunedin, where she is a student at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Otepoti.[1]She founded her business at the age of 12, as a fundraiser. At 15 years of age, Latu wrote her first book 'Ngā mihi' on the history of poi.[2] In 2022, Latu's business Potiki Poi created 32,000 Poi for the 2022 Womens World Cup.[3][4]

Awards and Recognition

  • 2021: Hiwaterangi Award for Young Achievers at Ngā Tohu Matariki o Te Tau
  • 2022: Latu received the Young Māori Business Leader Award at the 2022 Aotearoa Māori Business Leaders Awards.[5] She later received the BLAKE Rangatahi award for her business, Potiki Poi.[6]
  • 2023: Latu was named a finalist at the New Zealander of the Year Awards, Young New Zealander of the year. She is a current semi-finalist for the 2023 Impact Awards, in the 'Enterprise' category.[7]
