George (Egor) Borshchev (born October 16, 2000) is a Russian-born American professional ice hockey forward. He has played in the Eastern Hockey League, NCAA Division III men's ice hockey, the ECHL, the FPHL, and the SPHL.

Early life and education

Borshchev was born in Moscow, Russia, and later moved to the United States, where he attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts. While at Xaverian, he played varsity hockey and competed against other strong Massachusetts high school programs, including Malden Catholic.[1]

Junior Hockey

Before college, Borshchev played for the Express Hockey Club and the Walpole Express in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) from 2017 to 2019. During the 2018–19 season with Walpole Express, he played 30 games, scoring 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points.

College Hockey

From 2019 to 2021, Borshchev played for Salve Regina University in NCAA Division III men's ice hockey. During the 2019–20 season, he appeared in 14 games and recorded three assists. The following season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Academic All-Conference team.[2]

Professional Career

Worcester Railers (ECHL)

After leaving Salve Regina during the COVID-19 pandemic, Borshchev signed with the Worcester Railers of the ECHL for the 2021–22 season. He was officially announced as part of the 28-player training camp roster on October 10, 2021.[3]

FPHL and SPHL

Borshchev later played for the Binghamton Black Bears and Danbury Hat Tricks in the FPHL, contributing offensively and defensively. During this time, he appeared on the Inside the SPHL Podcast, where he discussed his experiences playing in minor professional leagues and his development as a forward.[4]

In March 2023, he was selected by the Baton Rouge Zydeco in the FPHL expansion draft.

As of the 2023–24 season, Borshchev is a member of the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs in the SPHL.[5] He also appeared on the Hat Trick City Podcast during his tenure with the Danbury Hat Tricks.[6]
