Geng Diandong (October 15, 1922 – 1995) was born in Huantai County, Shandong Province, China. He was a surgeon and photographer.
Life
Medical Career
In his early years, Geng Diandong graduated from the Shandong Medical Science Junior College and later pursued further studies in Japan, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Yamaguchi University. He served as a surgeon at the National Taiwan University Hospital, Vice President and surgeon at the Taipei Xu Surgical Hospital, professor at the Chung Shan Medical Specialized School, and director of the Taipei County Jinling Surgical Hospital. In 1974, he was awarded the Exceptional Physician Award by the Department of Health of the Executive Yuan.
Photographic Endeavors
In addition to his medical practice, Geng Diandong had a passion for exploring the art of photography. He captured subjects ranging from famous mountains and unique rock formations to classical architecture and seasonal flora. In 1968, Geng held his first solo photography exhibition at the Taipei Military Cultural Center. The following year, he was honored with the Photography Award by the Ministry of Education. In 1975, he was invited to hold his second solo exhibition at the American Cultural Center in the capital city of, Costa Rica, San José, in Central America. In 1976, he was awarded the title of Excellent Fellow of the International Federation of Photographic Art (EFIAP) by International Federation of Photographic Art.
In 1976 and 1977, Geng Diandong was invited by the National Museum of History to participate in the "Four-People Joint Photography Exhibition" and his personal "Lotus-themed Exhibition." Subsequently, he held numerous joint exhibitions and solo exhibitions at various venues, including the Taichung Provincial Library, Kaohsiung Municipal Chung Cheng Cultural Center, and Taitung Provincial Social Education Hall. These exhibitions included themes such as "Photography of Classical Chinese Architecture," "Floral Photography Exhibition," "Four Seasons Floral Photography Exhibition," and "Ten Friends Photography Joint Exhibition." Among them, in 1992, the "Photography of Classical Chinese Architecture" exhibition, organized by the National Museum of History, toured five countries in Central and South America, including Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
In addition to exhibitions, Geng Diandong published several photography collections after 1978, including "Geng Diandong's Lotus Photography Collection" (1978), "Geng Diandong Photography Collection" (Volume Two) (1981), "Geng Diandong Floral Photography Collection" (1985), "Photography Collection of Classical Chinese Architecture by Geng Diandong" (1988), and "Geng Diandong's Sentimental Photography Exhibition of Mountains and Rocks" (1995). Through these collections, Geng made significant contributions to both the fields of photography artistry and medical profession throughout his lifetime.
