Gabriel Cannon, born in 1987, is an American singer, rapper, actor and production assistant. He is one of television host and rapper Nick Cannon’s four half-brothers..[1].

Biography

Childhood

Gabriel is the son of James Cannon, author, philanthropist and televangelist[2], and Landa Cannon. He has 4 brothers : Reuben, Javen and Caleb, and older half-brother, Nick. He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina[3]. During their childhood, his father gave his children a camera. Together, they made videos. Nick directs and films, while Gabriel acts in front of the camera[4]. The two brothers are close, and Gabriel idolized Nick. When Gabriel was 8, they formed the group 3YB (3 Young Brothers) and sang at their local church[5].

Debut with Nick

When Nick Cannon became popular in the 2000s, his family followed him to Los Angeles. It was at this point that Gabriel's lifestyle changed and he started partying too much. Gabriel is even more in awe of his big brother, wanting to do what he does, look like him and even talk like him. Nick writes lyrics and composes music for his brothers[6]. When the Cannon brothers graduated from high school, Nick hired them for his Wild 'n Out show, which was on MTV. Gabriel was a production assistant[7]. Nick opens up professional opportunities for Gabriel, offering him and one of his other brothers the chance to sign with his band Writerz N Artists[8]. But Gabriel struggled to find his place as he had to struggle to write his own material. Later, the band went on tour with Mariah Carey in 2010[9].

Retreat into religion

To reconnect with himself and turn away from the pursuit of fame, Gabriel moves with his daughter to Malibu, where he reads the Bible on the beach[10].

Career

On March 28, 2020, Gabriel became President of Marketing and Advertising for Electronic Business Cards, LLC[11].

Since June 26, 2023, he appears on the ABC reality show Claim to Fame[12]

Criminal case

On March 9, 2011, Gabriel was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on suspicion of robbery and assault. For the past year, Gabriel had been filming a reality TV show. In March, he arranges to meet two of the show's employees, Alex Moreno and his son Alejo, in Studio City. Cannon arrives with 3 friends, an argument breaks out with the Morenos and they assault them, stealing jewelry, cameras and footage of Gabriel[13]. As a result, Gabriel Cannon goes to prison.

Private life

Gabriel has a daughter, Mayara, born on October 16, 2009 to reality TV actress Monica Leon, better known as "Danger"[14]. After the birth, Monica suffered post-partum depression and spent a week in a psychiatric hospital for tests in December[15]. After their separation, Gabriel gains sole custody of his daughter[16]
