G3 Music is a Namibian music duo known for their blend of musical styles, including pop, rock, and Afro-fusion. Formed in the early 2000s, the duo consists of brothers George and Gustav Pickering. Over the years, G3 Music has gained recognition for their music contributions in Namibia.
History
Formation and Early Years G3 Music was formed by brothers Gustav and George Pickering in the early 2000s. The name "G3" represents their names (George and Gustav) and emphasizes their faith in God. Growing up in a musical family, they were exposed to various musical influences, including Earth Wind and Fire, The Beatles, Elvis, Sir Cliff Richard, and The Temptations, from their father's band days.[1]Gustav and George Pickering live on stage performing 'Olupando'
Despite pursuing individual educational paths, their shared passion for music led to the formation of G3. They quickly gained popularity among their peers and began performing at talent shows during their school days.[2]
In 2005, G3 Music gained recognition with their hit single "Olupandu," contributing to their popularity in Namibia.[3][4]
Hiatus and 2021 Revival In 2008, Gustav moved to London, leading to a temporary disbandment of the group.[5]
However, in 2021, George and their younger brother, John, decided to revive G3, now collaborating with vocalist Janine Manuel to form "G3 with Janine." This reformation marked the beginning of a new phase for the group, combining their individual musical talents to create a fresh sound.[6]
In addition to their music pursuits, they established the Harmony School of Music in their childhood neighborhood in Walvis Bay, showcasing their commitment to music education and community involvement.
