Frank Mittelbach is a German computer scientist and mathematician. Frank is best known for his contributions as a main developer of the document preparation system LaTeX.[1][2] and being a co-author of all three editions of the LaTeX reference and how-to guide The LaTeX Companion [3]. Frank, together with Chris Rowley and Rainer Schöpf, spearheaded the development of the newest LaTeX version called LaTeX3[4] which started its development in 1989[5][6], see LaTeX.

LaTeX was initially developed by Leslie Lamport, in 1991 a team took over the development from Lesie - the team was led by Frank[7]. In addition, Frank published other publications related to LaTeX for the last 30+ years [8]. In 1989, Frank received a scholarship from the TeX inventor Donald E. Knuth, the so-called Donald E. Knuth Scholarship [9].
