Frances Walker CBE RSA RSW D. Litt. (19 August 1930) is a Scottish painter, printmaker and retired lecturer. Born in Kirkcaldy, she has lived in Aberdeen for more than 60 years.[1] After teaching art in the Hebrides,[2] Walker accepted a lecturer position in Drawing and Painting at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen,[3] where she also contributed to the foundation of Peacock Visual Arts print studio.[4][5]

The artist takes inspiration from wild and natural forms and textures, from the atmospheric familiarity of the Western Isles to desolate and remote landscapes like the Antarctic,[2][6] where she visited thanks to the James McBey Travel Award from Aberdeen Art Gallery in 2007.[7] Her technique goes from screenprinting to lithograph, as well as monoprint, etching and collagraph, and through her energetic and rugged textures she communicates a sense of geological time.[8]
