François de Beaulieu is a French writer, living in Morlaix. He was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine on 24 November 1947. His father, François-Charles, born German in Bremen in 1913, became a war orphan the following year. An anti-Nazi pastor, he was conscripted into the Wehrmacht and arrested in 1943 for distributing the Christmas message from the Pope denouncing racial persecutions. Tried by a Wehrmacht tribunal for "undermining morale," "disobedience," and "sympathy towards Jewish circles," he was sentenced to disciplinary battalions on the Russian front, where he miraculously survived.[1] His son wrote his life in Mon père, Hitler et moi (2008), which was translated into German.[2] The Bremen Senate invited the author and held a discussion about this book.[3]
François de Beaulieu was a bookseller during the Paris events in 1968, and a member of the Internationale situationniste.[4] He is a recognized specialist of Breton nature and civilization.[5][6][7] He wrote around 70 books about sheep, horses, seals[8] , hens, moors,[9] islands, birds, flowers, history, chapels, castles, traditions, British tourism in Brittany,[10] legends and especially wolves[11][12] as well as guides and dictionaries.[13] He taught french in secondary schools and ethnology at the Brest University.[14] François de Beaulieu wrote hundreds of articles in magazines like Penn ar Bed (Breton name of Finistère), ArMen[15] and for the daily newspaper Le Télégramme.[16] His books have been published by famous publishing houses like Éditions Ouest-France, Skol Vreizh, Glénat, Locus Solus, Delachaux et Niestlé, the Rennes University Press (PUR)... He had some articles translated in English for the official Regional Council of Brittany site Becedia[17] and Academia.edu.[18] He gave many files to the French Ministry of Ecological Transition.[19]
