Flicks is a cinema, streaming, and sport content discovery platform in New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.[1][2][3] The Flicks website and app sort data from sports, cinema, and streaming sites into listings, ratings, showtimes, streaming guides, trailers, and editorial articles.[4]

Flicks is a subsidiary company of Vista Group, having been acquired in 2016.[5]

History

Flicks was founded in New Zealand in 2006. It began as a basic cinema guide for New Zealanders to view nationwide showtimes at nearby cinemas and read reviews of the latest films.[6]

In 2015, Flicks expanded into Australia. Flicks was acquired by Vista Group in 2016. Co-founder Paul Scantlebury continued to lead the business through the acquisition and remains the current CEO of Flicks.[6]

The Flicks app launched in 2022 across New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.[4]

In 2023, Flicks expanded to include a live sport viewing guide.[7]

In 2022, the Flicks app was a bronze award winner at the Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Awards.[4]

Shortlisted at 2023 Mumbrella Publish Awards

Shortlisted at the 2023 Mumbrella Publish Awards for three categories: Website of the Year, Columnist of the Year (Luke Buckmaster), and Young Writer of the Year (Eliza Janssen).[8]
