Fernando Semenzato is an Argentine-American television executive and content producer for Latin and North American pay television and streaming. He has held roles at Cartoon Network Latin America, National Geographic, and The Walt Disney Company.

Early life

Semenzato was born in Argentina.[1] He entered the advertising industry in the early 1990s and later joined Turner Broadcasting in 1998, relocating to Atlanta to work on Cartoon Network’s Latin America division.[2][3]

Career

Cartoon Network Latin America

For Cartoon Network's Latin America Division, Semenzato served as Vice President of Creative Services. During his tenure, he was responsible for implementing all on air promotions, and writing and producing scripts. One such project was "The Rubbles", a reality TV spoof of "The Flintstones." During this period, the channel received industry recognition for its branding, including Promax/BDA, a FIAP award, and a One Show award.[3][4]

Fox Latin American Channels

In 2004, Semenzato joined Fox Latin American Channels as Vice President of Content.[5] He contributed to the adult animation block No Molestar and supervised series such as Tiempo Final, Cumbia Ninja, and Alessandra a tu manera—the latter winning a Martín Fierro Award.[6]

National Geographic (2016–2019)

In 2016, he was named Vice President of Marketing at National Geographic Latin America and in 2018, VP of Development and Production. During his tenure, the channel rebranded to reach younger audiences[7] and developed original franchises including:

  • Alerta Aeropuerto (airport security docuseries),[8]
  • Bios: Vidas que cambiaron la tuya, profiling musicians like Gustavo Cerati, Charly García, Andres Calamaro, and Luis Alberto Spinetta.[9]

For Nat Geo Kids, he developed:

  • Nat Geo Lab, an educational science show starring Sebastián Villalobos,[10]
  • Opa Popa Dupa, a puppet-based educational series.[11]

Disney (2019–present)

Following the acquisition of Fox by Disney in 2019, Semenzato became Head of Development and Production for factual, comedy, and scripted content in Latin America for Disney+, Star+, and National Geographic. Projects include:

  • Diciembre 2001, a political thriller series that was publicly-praised by then Argentine vice-president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner,[12][13]
  • Kun por Agüero, a documentary about footballer Sergio Agüero that premiered at Canneseries,[14]
  • Releyendo Mafalda, a docuseries on the Argentine comic Mafalda,[15]
  • Chueco, a Disney+ family sitcom,[16]
  • Viaje al Centro de la Tierra, a modern adaptation of Verne's Journey To The Center of the Earth, for streaming on Disney+.[17]
  • Argentina '78, which was also praised by former vice president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner,
  • Confidential, a docuseries on Guillermo Pérez Roldán, which was associated with renewed media coverage of the legal dispute between Roldan and his father.[18]

Semenzato is based in Miami, Florida.[27]
