Felix Beuschlein is a German-born physician-scientist specializing in endocrinology. He is Professor of Internal Medicine/Endocrinology and Director of the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Clinical Nutrition at the University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland. Beuschlein is recognized for his contributions to adrenal tumor research and his leadership in international endocrine networks.

Early life and education

Beuschlein studied medicine at the University of Würzburg and completed his clinical training at University of Freiburg. He pursued postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan, focusing on adrenal physiology and endocrine oncology.

Career

Beuschlein was appointed Professor of Endocrine Research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich before moving to Zurich in 2017. His research addresses endocrine tumors, adrenal Cushing's syndrome, and primary aldosteronism. He has authored over 490 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to major discoveries in endocrine tumorigenesis.

Research contributions

Beuschlein has led several landmark studies in adrenal endocrinology. In 2013, he co-authored a study identifying mutations in ATP1A1 and ATP2B3 in aldosterone-producing adenomas.[1]

In a 2014 study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, he reported somatic PRKACA mutations as a cause of cortisol-producing adrenal tumors.[2]

Leadership

Beuschlein is a founding member and past chair of the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumors (ENSAT). He has served on the Annual Meeting Steering Committee of the Endocrine Society and on the executive board of the Swiss Endocrine Society.

He was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Endocrinology in 2024.
