Fela Akinse (born 19 January 1989) is the founder of Salubata. He is an inventor and technology entrepreneur that created modular shoes from plastic recycling wastes and also for his CO2 to O2 shoe technology.[1][2][3][4]His efforts have been hailed as one of the successful strategies to curb plastic pollution in Nigeria by ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.[5]Salubata won an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers award in 2020 and Commonwealth Youth Programme award in 2022.[6][7]

Career

Akinse funded Salubata after he resigned as a business analyst and an environmental scientist in 2018.[8]

He co-founded Fintech and Genera, with his wife, Yewande Akinse, created an entrepreneurial course on Udemy.[2][9]

He is the first African to join the Commonroom Global Residency[10] and also owns two design rights, trademark and global patent in the United States and Nigeria in repurposing modular shoes from plastic recycling wastes.[2]

He was a delegate at the 2023 World Circular Economy Forum in Helsinki[11]and he is a honorary member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers[6]and also a world peace ambassador to Nigeria.[12]

Akinse has been invited as a speaker and panelists at Princeton University,[13] World Economic Forum (Davos conference), Junior Chamber International, EU-Africa Business Summit in 2021[14], TEDx[15], Ashoka, Innovention series, Lagos Innovates, ChangeNow World event, International Ecomarathon, Waves of Change,Pirate summit[16]and EVPA (Impact Week 2022), Verdant Zeal ‘Innovention’ Series.[17] [18][19][20]

Personal life

He is married to Yewande Akinse also an entrepreneur and they have a daughter.[3]

Awards and recognition

In 2019, He won UK Government’s Department for International Trade (DIT) Hackathon Competition, Business Person of the Year' by The Entrepreneur Africa Awards and British Council Entrepreneurship Award. He was nominated for World Economic Forum Global Shapers 2020 and won the 2021 edition of Science Innovation Award by Stellenbosch University and 2022 just IMAGINE IF by Durham University.[21][22][4]
