Federico Giuseppe Usuelli (January 7, 1979) is an Italian orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery. He has contributed to the development of surgical techniques in ankle arthroplasty and has been involved in international training and humanitarian initiatives..[1]
Early life
Usuelli was born in Italy in 1979. He pursued a degree in Medicine and Surgery before specializing in Orthopedics[2] and Traumatology[3]. During his training, he undertook international experiences that allowed him to work with specialists in the field of orthopedic surgery.[4][5]
Medical career
Usuelli has worked on developing minimally invasive techniques for cartilage repair and ankle arthroplasty. He has published more than 70 articles indexed on PubMed and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS). He has also contributed to the foundation of the Asia Pacific Foot and Ankle Society and serves on the editorial board of Foot and Ankle Clinics.[6]
In 2016, Usuelli began working at IRCCS Galeazzi in Milan, where he led the "Casco Piede e Caviglia" unit dedicated to foot and ankle surgery. By 2019, he was appointed Head of the Ankle and Foot Orthopedics Department at Humanitas San Pio X in Milan.[7][8]
In recognition of his contributions to orthopedic surgery, he was awarded the title of Commendatore of the Order of Merit[9]
Humanitarian Work
Usuelli is involved in global outreach initiatives, particularly through the organization Steps 2 Walk, which provides surgical training and treatment in resource-limited settings.[10] During the COVID-19 pandemic, he co-founded the "Niguarda Tutti" campaign, raising funds for intensive care units and medical equipment.
