Fazal
Fazal (born 3 April 1972) is an Indian scriptwriter and film director who works in Malayalam cinema. He started his career as an assistant director in 1996 working with notable directors such as A. K. Lohithadas, Rafi and Mecartin, and Shafi and has since worked on over 20 films. He made his debut as a scriptwriter with the 2016 film John Honai and later wrote the script for the 2019 film Mask. In addition to feature films, he has also directed several short films, including Nidhi (2007), Cover Story (2016)[1], Corona Villa (2021)[2] and 3 Roses (2022)[3]
Career
Fazal's career in the film industry began in 1996 when he worked as an assistant director on the Malayalam film Superman. He went on to work on several other films in Malayalam cinema, including Punjabi House (1998), Karunyam (1997), Ormacheppu (1998), Arayanngalude Veedu (1998), Thenkashipattanam (2000), One Man Show (2001), Kalyanaraman (2002), Pulival Kalyanam (2003), Chathikkatha Chanthu (2004), Pandipada (2005), Mayavi (2007), Hallo (2007), Romeo (2007), Love in Singapore (2010), and China Town (2011).
Fazal made his debut as a scriptwriter with the 2016 film John Honai[4], directed by T. A. Thaufeek. The film starred Jagadish, Mukesh, and Siddique in the lead roles and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. In 2019, Fazal wrote the script for the film Mask[5], directed by Sunil Hanif. The film starred Shine Tom Chacko, Chemban Vinod Jose, and Priyanka Nair in the lead roles.
In addition to feature films, Fazal has also directed several short films. His short film Nidhi, which he directed in 2007, won the Kerala State Special Jury Award. He later directed two other short films - Cover Story (2016) and Corona Villa (2021). Corona Villa received the Best Short Film award and the Global Excellency Award.
