Fariba Sahraei is a British–Iranian journalist and documentary filmmaker. She has reported for international outlets including the BBC, Deutsche Welle (DW) and ABC News on Iran and Afghanistan, and has produced investigative films.[1] Her reporting includes a widely cited 2012 BBC News article on Iranian university bans affecting women,[2] a 2022 DW documentary on the trafficking of Afghan children,[3] and 2025 ABC reporting from inside Iran during the Israel–Iran conflict.[4]

Career

Sahraei has worked across broadcast and digital formats for international networks, with a focus on women’s rights, conflict and migration in Iran and Afghanistan.[5] In September 2012, she reported for the BBC on restrictions placed on female students at Iranian universities.[6] In August 2022, she co-reported the DW documentary Sold off: The Trafficked Children of Afghanistan (with Marc Erath).[7] In June 2025, she contributed on-the-ground accounts from inside Iran for ABC News during the escalation with Israel.[8]
