Faisal J. Abbas (born 2 January 1982) is a Saudi journalist and media executive. He is the editor-in-chief of Arab News,[1] an English-language daily newspaper based in Saudi Arabia. Abbas has worked with several media outlets including Future Television, Al Hayat, and Asharq Al-Awsat pan-Arab dailies. He is a frequent commentator on regional and international affairs across print, broadcast, and digital media.[1][2]
Early life and education
Faisal J. Abbas was born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the Lebanese American University in 2003.[2] He pursued further studies in the United Kingdom, obtaining a master’s degree in marketing communications from the University of Westminster in London in 2009.[2] In 2019, Abbas completed the Public Leadership Credential program at Harvard Kennedy School.[2]
Career
Faisal J. Abbas began his media career in the early 2000s across broadcast, print, and digital platforms in the Middle East and Europe. In the early 2000s, Abbas worked as a student reporter for Future Television in Lebanon and later served as media editor at Asharq Al-Awsat. In 2011, Abbas worked as a Middle East correspondent for The International Resource Journal. He later became editor-in-chief of Al Arabiya English from 2012 to 2016. Since 2016, he has served as editor-in-chief of Arab News.[2]
Abbas has appeared as a political commentator on international news outlets including CNN, BBC, and Sky News. He has delivered talks and participated in debates at academic and policy institutions, including Harvard University, the London School of Economics, and the Cambridge Union Society.[1]

Abbas has held senior editorial roles at English-language media organizations in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, including editor-in-chief of Arab News. Abbas was elected deputy chairman of the Saudi Journalists Association in 2024.[8]
