Ewan Andrew McAlpine Pow is a Scottish medical student, and non-Executive Director of Public Health Scotland.[1]. He is best known for being the youngest NHS Director in the UK, when appointed to the Board of Directors of Public Health Scotland aged 22.

Early Life and Education

Pow grew up in Moffat, Scotland and attended Moffat Academy where he was Head Boy. He later attended the University of Edinburgh, achieving a degree in Medical Sciences[2].

He now attends the University of Aberdeen as a Medical Student and will qualify as a Doctor in 2027.

Career

Pow came to public prominence when the Scottish Government appointed him to the Board of Directors of Public Health Scotland aged 22, making him the youngest NHS Director nationwide and the youngest person to hold a Public Appointment in Scotland[3][4].

His previous experience included roles with Young Scot on their Health Panel, as a Youth Ambassador of Change with the Scottish FA and as the Chair of the Youth Referee Ambassadors committee[5].

He has presented at several Royal College of Emergency Medicine research conferences, along with volunteering with several organisations, such as In2MedSchool and the Scottish Ambulance Service[6][7]

In 2022, he won the Young Achiever award at the Scottish Health Awards, recognising the role he had played during the COVID-19 Pandemic and his achievements in becoming a non-Executive Director[8][4][9].
