Eva Schürmann (* 1967 in Essen) is a German philosopher and university professor. Since 2011, she holds the chair of Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture and Technology.[1] at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
Early life and education
Eva Schürmann studied philosophy, comparative literature, and art history at the Ruhr University Bochum. After study visits to Paris, Cambridge, and Bologna, she graduated in 1994 with a Master of Arts on Spinoza's Ethics. In 1998, she received her doctorate from the University of Witten/Herdecke with a comparative study on Maurice Merleau-Ponty and James Turrell. After a visiting professorship at the University of Chicago, she completed her habilitation in 2007 at the Technical University of Darmstadt[2] with a monograph on the practice of visual perception. From 2009 to 2011, she was Professor of Cultural Philosophy and Aesthetics at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. In 2014, she received the Aby Warburg Foundation Award[3]. In the 2014/15 academic year, she was a fellow at the Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study "Law as Culture" at the University of Bonn. Since 2015, she has been co-editor of the Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie[4]
