Eva Palacios is a Catalan-French performer who has appeared in musical theater plays like the Dutch production of Be More Chill[1]. She has also appeared in more amateur productions of Grease. Her upbringing was spread through countries across the Global South, including Algeria, India, Mali, Togo and Senegal; shaping her relationship to her identity and her interest for social issues of colonialism and the modern accounts of similar injustices. This prompted her to study Political Science and get involved as an activist in movements of environmental justice.

Education

Eva Palacios competed the IGCSE at the British School of Lome in Togo. During her studies there she participated and won the International letter writing competition for young people by UPU, which would present her with an international award in Bern at the headquarters of the UPU and a recognition from the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres[2]. Palacios attended the International School of Dakar (ISD) in Senegal, where she completed her International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma.

Her formal education includes a Bachelor of Science (BsC) in Political Science from the University of Amsterdam from the year 2021 to 2023, having accelerated her degree to focus on her musical theater career. At the University of Amsterdam she also completed a minor in Catalan in a European Context while also coursing her bachelor's courses.

Awards

At the age of 13, Palacios participated in the 2017 National Letter-Writing competition of Togo with the prompt of writing a letter to the UN Secretary General about an issue they would like to help him solve. Eva decided on the topic of child-marriage and her writing skills brought her to win the Togo National competition and participate in the International competition by Universal Postal Union, a specialized agency of the UN.

Palacios would end up winning the International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People of that year with her letter that "would bring the audience to tears"[2]. This prompted her to travel to Bern to receive her award and present her letter to the delegates of multiple countries attending the ceremony. Her letter would end up in the Best of the Best document which collects the winning letters of over 50 years of the competition.[3]

Theater career

Her passion for theater started since really young, appearing on several high school productions, out of which one can highlight her role as the protagonist Jean Valjean in the play of Les Miserables. Quickly after moving out on her own is when her career started including bigger scenarios like the Dutch production of Be More Chill in Amsterdam, the first one ever made in Europe outside of London[4]. During her performance in this modern musical, she acted as swing for Brooke and for Christine, the female lead of the show.
