Eugene Agboifo Ohu (also known as Dr. Eugene Ohu) is a Nigerian researcher and academic .[1] He is a senior lecturer in the Department of Organizational Behaviour/Human Resource Management at Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria. He is also the director and principal investigator of the Virtual Human-Computer Interaction Lab (VHCI Lab) at Lagos Business School.[2][3] [4][5][6]

Eugene's research interests include the psychology of human-computer interactions, virtual reality, and organizational behavior. He has published several papers in academic journals and has presented his work at conferences around the world. He is also the recipient of several awards, including the Templeton World Charity Foundation grant in 2020. [7][1][8][9]

Education

Eugene completed his secondary school education at Ika Grammar School, Agbor from 1981 to 1986.[10] Following this, he applied for a 2-year Advanced Level program at Federal Government College, Warri, and was accepted.[10] In 1988, he studied Pharmacy at the University of Benin and graduated in 1997. Later on, he pursued a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Calabar. Finally, in 2012, Eugene obtained his doctorate degree in Institutional Social Communications from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, Italy.[2][8][11]

Career

In 2005, Eugene established Netorb Media in Nigeria, a prominent communication firm catering to businesses' internal and external communication needs.[10] The company introduced the .ng domain and had servers capable of handling millions of SMS messages for both end-users and aggregators.[10] In 2014, Eugene began working full-time as a faculty member at the Lagos Business School, teaching Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management. He later shifted his research interests to Human-Computer Interactions, exploring the relationship between people and technology. In 2018, he established a Virtual Reality Laboratory with the assistance of the Lagos Business School.

Eugene is a member of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) and has served on the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).[2][12] In addition, he is n external examiner at Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business, University of West Indies. Eugene is also affiliated with a number of institutions nmely: the American Psychological Association (APA), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), the Academy of Management (AOM), and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN). Additionally, he serves as an entrepreneurship mentor in the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) entrepreneurship program. Eugene speaks and writes in Italian and Spanish and understands French.[12][8][11]

Virtual Human Computer Interaction (VHCI) Laboratory

The Virtual Human-Computer Interaction (VHCI) Lab was established in 2018 by Eugene Ohu to offer immersive reality experiences. The Lab uses virtual reality to teach empathy and compassion through research at the intersection of psychology and technology. The goal is to promote love and unity in Nigeria and make the world a better place.[13] The VHCI Lab is equipped with cutting-edge technology to develop and research virtual reality. It uses Alienware desktops, Alienware laptops, HTC Vive Pro Eye head-mounted displays, Oculus Quest 2 headsets, and Rokoko Motion Capture Suits.[14]

The VCHI lab was awarded a grant of $234,000 by Templeton World Charity Foundation, Inc (TWCF) in 2020 to carry out virtual reality research for a duration of two years.[1] Moreover, in 2022, the VHCI lab established a collaboration with Meta to conduct a Virtual Reality (VR) study across Africa. This initiative is part of a $50 million worldwide investment in research and program partners aimed at fostering collaborative efforts in constructing the metaverse.[15]
