Esa Vesmanen is an interior architect, product designer, and educator based in Helsinki. He is Principal of Pure Design[1] and lecturer in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture[2]. His design approach is influenced by his background in Finnish culture and enriched by his active participation in the global design community.

A strong advocate for sustainability, Vesmanen aims to create long lasting and practical designs for spaces and products that enrich our daily experiences. His work blends tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation. Focusing on using what already exists, he explores ways to use materials to strengthen the connection between people and nature.

Vesmanen's engagement in international design discourse was highlighted in the exhibition 'Dialogue: minä perhonen & Esa Vesmanen with Alvar Aalto' [3]. In collaboration with Japanese designer Akira Minagawa, minä perhonen[4], the exhibition transformed the Alvar and Elissa Aalto -designed Maison Louis Carré, exploring the relationship between contemporary and modern design, and between the existing and the new.

His recent works include the design for 'A Question of Time' [5] the permanent exhibition of Ateneum, Finnish National Gallery, and the transformation of a series of interiors on the street level of the historically significant Grönqvist House[6] by Theodor Höijer aligning the Esplanade Park in downtown Helsinki.

Vesmanen earned his degree in Interior Architecture in 1996 and completed three years of postgraduate research at the Future Home Institute at University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture) Aalto University. He further honed his expertise studying industrial and conceptual design at Les Ateliers l’École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, Paris (ENSCI).
