Emma-Jean Thackray is a Bandleader, multi-instrumentalist and producer, from Morley in West Yorkshire.

Thackray studied jazz at the Royal Welsh College Of Music And Drama under British Jazz pianist and composer Keith Tippett.[1] After the Royal Welsh College Of Music And Drama, she took a master’s in jazz orchestral composition at Trinity College alongside British Jazz contemporaries Moses Boyd and Nubya Garcia[2].

In 2020 Thackray started her own record label Movementt to showcase new music of her own as well as new talent from the wider jazz and exploratory music scenes that she’s involved with.[3] The label's first release was solo EP 'Rain Dance' followed by reissues of 2016 EP 'Walrus' and 2018 EP 'Ley Lines'.[4]

On 23rd July 2021 Thackray released 'Yellow' her debut album on her own Movementt label. The album reached #1 in the official UK Jazz album charts, and #3 in the UK independent albums chart.[5][6]
