Academic Career
Since 1977, Macevičiūtė has worked at Vilnius University, lecturing and conducting research in information and communication science.[4] She became a docent in 1991 and was awarded a habilitation certificate in 2004, officially recognizing her expertise. During the 1990s, she led a Tempus project for a Master's degree in International Communication[5] in the Vilnius University Faculty of Communication.

Research Contributions
Macevičiūtė's research has influenced academic and practical library services in both Lithuania and Sweden, having contributed to 42 national and international research projects. In Lithuania she has contributed to the library and bibliographic system through studies of the role of libraries in the 20th and the present centuries[7], and has explored how libraries can assist in reducing digital inequalities.[8]. Continuing her interest in the impact of digital technologies, her study, funded by the Lithuanian Research Council, explored digital reading as a means of reducing the digital divide[9], and an investigation funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was part of a programme studying the global impact of public access to information and communication technologies.[10]
In Sweden, she has been involved in an investigation supported by the Swedish Research Council into the role of various interested parties, from publishers to readers, in the e-book marked, and in other studies of the role of e-books in niche markets. [11][12]. A continuing interest in information behaviour research led to a number of projects (for example, a study of how people with deafblindness seek and use information. [13] Together with T.D. Wilson she also carried out a Delphi study into the research needs of libraries in Sweden[14]
Macevičiūtė has had a long-term interest in aspects of the digital economy [15], and this is reflected in her involvement in projects financed by the European Union, beginning with the SHAMAN project (Sustaining Heritage Access through Multivalent Archiving EU FP7, 2007–2011)[15])[16], and continuing with the follow-up project PERICLES – Promoting and Enhancing Reuse of Information throughout the Content Lifecycle (EU FP7, 2013–2015)[17]. She has participated in the SUITCEYES project (Smart, User-friendly, Interactive, Tactual, Cognition-Enhancer (EU Horizon 2020, 2018–2021)[18], which developed haptic communication technologies for deaf-blind people.
